The Blue Dot Lock System

Blue Dot smart locks are a major advance in building security. One of the headaches of any locked entry system is key management. When someone loses their keys this usually means an expensive rekeying of one or many locks at the facility. Then you have to reissue new mechanical keys to every authorized person that needs keys to the facility. With the introduction of Blue Dot locks you can eliminate this cost. By issuing iButton keys to authorized personnel and registering them with the lock you can revoke any key without rekeying. This is possible because each iButton key is uniquely identifiable.

You can register your personal iButton key with any number of smart locksets. A commercial Blue Dot lock can recognize up to 250 unique iButton keys. Instead of having a huge key ring full of keys you only need your car keys and one iButton to gain access to all the locked doors you need to get into. The same iButton can be used to open the door to your business and the door to your office and the door to the warehouse. The same iButton can also be used with other In-Touch products to disarm your alarm system, clock you into your time clock and identify your status of IN or OUT of your facility.

iButtons have "key" advantages:

  • Ruggedness. Tough enough for everyday wear, iButtons withstand water, dirt, bumps and magnetic fields.
  • Long life. iButtons are also electronically durable; they are battery-backed for ten years or one million "hot" contacts.
  • Versatility. There are many kinds of iButtons available; the chips inside can have different levels of memory and functionality. One iButton can have multiple other functions and still get you in the door.
  • Uniqueness. All iButton keys derive their uniqueness from a globally unique, controlled serial number engraved in silicon, rather than from physical topography. The factory techniques used in making these unique chips are prohibitively difficult to duplicate. A unique Sync iButton key is registered to one or more locks, which likewise have a unique serial number. Even if someone with unlimited time and resources were to somehow duplicate the key's electronic serial number, the owner retains ultimate control over key permissions. Because of this uniqueness, your business security is greater with Blue Dot Locks and i Button keys than with a mechanical system.

Personal Identification

The Bluedot Lock System uses the virtually indestructible iButton key for personal identification. Only the size of a nickel the iButton key unlocks a door with a simple touch. The iButton can be dropped, stepped on, put next to a magnet or even run through the washing machine and it will still work. Carried on your key chain the i Button personal identifier is always handy and hard to forget at home. As Bluedot locks are added you can register your personal iButton to any lock you have been granted permission to unlock. If you should ever lose your keys you will not have to rekey any Bluedot lock. Every Bluedot lockset can easily be reprogrammed to deny access to your lost iButton and you will be issued a new iButton key.

Blue Dot connectivity and the programming master key (Sync iButton)

The Sync iButton acts as a data conduit between a lock that is not hard-wired and your PC. You simply download instructions from the PC into the Sync iButton and then transfer them to the lock. The Sync iButton can also ferry the lock's log back to the PC for uploading to a database. You can bring the lock a user list and set the lock parameters such as whether you want the door to automatically lock itself after every use (warehouse mode) or if you want to unlock the door once (classroom mode). You can also collect usage data (audit trail records) and view them by lockset, iButton key, or key owner. Its easy to keep track of who has keys to your facility and what their access status is. You can restrict access to different days and times for different people and if anyone loses their iButton key you simply delete that single key from the access list and issue them a new key. The old key will not work and you can even see in the audit trail if someone tried to use the deleted key. This is the smart way to manage access to every door with a lock on it.
