Grain & Agronomy Truck Traffic Control

PROJECT: Mercer Landmark, Paulding, Ohio

OVERVIEW

Mercer Landmark was looking for a way to process trucks more efficiently, accurately, and safely in their grain and agronomy operations. Their grain facility alone handles on average up to 60 trucks per day. During the harvest season it peaks to over 150 trucks daily, and with that volume of business they needed to eliminate inbound and outbound bottlenecks to keep traffic moving quickly.

On the grain side, Kahler's solution includes each truck being assigned an RFID tag which provides fast identification along with reduced foot traffic for fewer delays. Upon check-in at the grain probe, drivers can use the intercom to get any questions answered, which helps keep traffic moving smoothly. The system features 2 scales for inbound and outbound traffic. Photo eyes ensure trucks are properly positioned to capture the weight accurately.

The inbound scales have enhanced equipment for the Agronomy operation. Communication centers by the scale allow drivers to check in for loadout or delivering crop inputs. Simple prompts guide easy entry of key information, linking the order to the vehicle. Bay directions let drivers know where to proceed. The inbound scale has a message board to direct grain traffic to the correct dump pit. After unloading, the driver uses the outbound scale to get their tare weight and ticket followed by any important communication on the message board as they leave the facility.

Both the grain and agronomy traffic solutions integrate with Mercer’s ERP business systems for quick and accurate processing. Trucks are now able to get through from start to finish in less than 7 minutes, up to 80% faster than before. Mercer Landmark processes more trucks, more efficiently, and more accurately with Kahler's truck traffic solutions.
